I grew up in Western NY (Tonawanda - about halfway between Buffalo and
Niagara Falls).  Jobs for tech folks seem thin on the ground, but
there's also fewer applicants (not like here in Boston where there are
actually a decent number of jobs but thousands applicants for each) so I
would say you're chances are about even - but you won't be able to pick
and choose.

One really nice thing is that the housing costs are actually pretty
good: it's mostly a blue-collar area so decent homes can be had for
$70,000+ (in Boston Metro that's $300,000+)

Western NY is a great area to live.  Near a lot of fine schools,
attractions and national parks.

Hi everyone,
Anybody here from the Rochester, NY area?  What's the job market
like up there?  I'm going to move there as soon as I'm married.
