Marriage is a religious and legal fiction. The only reason it's recognized by the govt. is because they passed laws that were influenced by a religion, like many other laws on the books. But now it has turned into something way different - as long as you give them the $30 or however much a marriage contract is, they will recognize your marriage and give you the benefits. And if you want a divorce, you give the lawyer $500 (or go to illinoislawhelp.org and fill out a few forms for free) and that's that. With how easy a govt. recognized divorce is, you would think that the religious would no longer want their institution of marriage even associated with what the govt. is calling it.
I wish one of the libertarians would share their opinion on whether the govt. should recognize marriage at all.
