Car Tail lights still on!

Hey guys, i got out of my car tonight and noticed the taillights were still on.  I have no idea why that happened.  Why is it on?  What is it trying to tell me?  I drive an acura legend.  I had to remove the fuse for the taillight in order to turn it off and conserve battery for now.  helpy!
