We recently had a discussion about this on a board we go to...

Anyways, here's some thoughts

GameCube is newer, thus more advanced hardware...
PS2 has the wider range of games - BUT about 95% of those are rubbish
(about 33% of the Cube games can be considered "Good")
PS2 can play DVDs as well as the old PSX games
GameCube can have the GBA adapter - you can play your GBA games on your
TV <g>
GameCube has the greatest controller made by man - the WaveBird

Sony are now pushing the PS2 into the on-line market (realising how well
Xbox Live is doing), so if you get one, then try to get one with a
Network Adapter

It all depends now on the type of games you want to play

PS2 has a WIDE variety of multi-player games, but most of the newer ones
are on all consoles

It comes down to several considerations

The Cube is selling for $99 at the moment, and the PS2 for $179

The PS2 is the most unreliable console in the history of the universe!
In the US they only give you a 90 day warranty, so if you can, get an
extended one - they break for the most stupid of reasons!

Saying that - they're so damn cheap now that you should buy both <g>
