But they referenced the earlier war by showing the ships and Cylons from the
earlier show, which strongly suggested that the first show was the first war
to which they referred. Hence the weirdness because it obviously can't be.
It's like they've created a completely self-referential anachronism.

I'm not caught up in it. I just think it was an example of the wonky
writing.

I think that was just a tribute to the earlier show, not a plot point.
Basically saying very clearly: these ain't your daddy's Cylons.
