I lived in Portland, Oregon for 3 years, and took pictures like mad.

I was bringing all of the photos I'd taken in those years to work to scan them in on a large industrial scanner. 2 large duffels full of prints and negatives.

I had to stop at a friend's house on the way (on a weekend).

When I came back to my car, my back window had been broken out and both duffels stolen.

Three years of pictures.

Nobody I told understood. "You still have the memories" was the kind of sympathy I got.

So let me just say "That sucks. A lot."

Tour around Europe again, do all the same places, and take more pictures

That's cheap for that kind of volume of data recovery. We just had a
9gig
scsi drive die and Drivesavers is estimating something shy of $1k.
