build a power work station out of. Turned out that the onboard ATI graphics
are supposed to turn off automatically when they detect another card, only
it doesn't work right. Dell's answer was basically tough luck. Eventually
was able to find some settings on their forums to get it to work though. I
wish I could go dual monitor with it now.

Subject: RE: video card under $100
I can't remember which ATI I had - one of the 9000 range
Anyways, had a problem installing it - Windows freezing, so I phoned
them (they were fairly unhelpful)
I ended up calling Dell, and they said "Must be an issue with the card"
I upgraded the bios, removed all sorts of hardware from the machine...
Many things tried
In the end, turns out that if you have an on-board video card, and it's
auto-disabled by the bios (no switch for you to change) then ATI cards
have REAL problems installing as it tries to activate both the on-board
and the ATI card at the same time
I'm still looking for a PCI-X compatible video card that works properly
:-P
