Never done it myself, but one potentially major concern is that any
modification to the Xbox that would let you install Linux is also
"noticeable" and will both void your warranty and prevent the system from
connecting to XBox Live for network play.

I know people with two units: one for Linux and one for Live.  It's also
unlikely that any system updates will work.

However considering it a cheap PC is pretty tempting.

I've been tempted by the PS2 Linux kit. it's a little pricey, but is fully
supported (designed for those that want to dabble in PS2 software design).

Did I title the post "breaking news"? I just wondered if anyone had anything
they would like to tell me before I mess around with an actual xbox owned by
an actual child who has been asking for one since they first came out. If
you have tried this or know someone who has tried this, and have information
on the topic, please do share. Otherwise kindly  move on and go demonstrate
your coolness in some other thread.

Hat, I did see the sourceforge page, thank you for googling it for me tho --
I meant to post that link and spaced it. I see that it may be tricky to do
the Microsoft online thing, but that may not really be an issue. We aren't
doing that anyway. And I suspect that this might be an interesting project
for a kid that used to do Gameboy games on my pc....

::shrug:: if anyone knows anything more, I'd like to hear from you.
