and you mod the xbox MS will detect that it's modded, take down the mac
address of the xbox and the credit card number you used and ban both for
life. So the only way you will get on Xbox live is to buy a new one and
use a different credit card. But if you never plan on using Xbox Live
then I say go for it.

I wouldn't do it on an xbox that I wanted to also use for gaming. Doing

linux conversion is mostly just a geek hack to prove it can be done.
If you really think he wants to try his hand at a linux box, the good
way to
pick up a starter computer is to get an old business castoff. The
university
here runs a surplus "store" that is open to the public once a week. They
regularly have systems that cost $25-$35. They're older systems, but
heck my
old 300MHz Celeron system is currently running just fine as a server
for
playing with. Business auctions are a good place to look too.
If you're willing to spend up to about $200-300, you could go the
