Subject: RE: Political Correctness

This thread reminds me of a story about words and how they are used.

I belong to a Greyhound forum where, yeah, everyone talks about
Greyhounds (and no, not the buses! :P)

So there's a RANT forum where you can just go post random rants.

This lady starts one day ... and she says she hates the word "bitch"
that it really bothers her when people use it to talk about girl dogs.
Why can't we all just say "female dog" or "girl dog".

So I find this amusing, and looked up the origins of the word, dating
back to long long ago, so I could post the history of the word and what
it was intended to mean, etc.

Now this is a DOG forum. A board where everyone talks about canines. A
female dog is a bitch. Full stop.

Needless to say, people hammered her for her comments and basically it
boiled down to:

a) people who KNOW they are using it in a derogatory manner being the
villains
b) people accepting it as a good thing (girlfriends saying "Hey! Yo
bitch! Whatcha been up to?")

versus

C) People using it in the correct way. ("I have a fawn bitch that is
about to have puppies, does anyone want any?")

The original complainer took it all pretty hard as usually someone will
do who posts something that 95% of the population find quite acceptable
(ESPECIALLY on a DOG forum!) and in the end we learned that the term
"kids" which we use day in and day out to talk about human offspring, is
also derogatory! It became a slang term taken from the offspring of
goats .... Which are called, yeah you guessed it, KIDS! LOLOL (perfect
name if you ask me :P)

My bottom line?
All this PC stuff is getting old and boring. :P

Cheers,
Erika
