You are correct about the number of kids that have been kidnapped every
year, but this is what I saw when I went to CNN.com. That doesnt take
anything from the tragedy of the situation though.

Oh, look, another pretty blonde white girl's been kidnapped - good thing
nobody kidnaps boys. It only happens "again and again" because the
media jumps on fearmongering stories like this to get you to watch the
5:00 updates. Thousands upon thousands of children are kidnapped every
year in this country - CNN/Fox/etc. have their pick of the littler of
easily digestible "Amber Alert" stories now to farm out to keep everyone
looking over their shoulders.
I look at all those kids - boy, girl, white, black, asian, latino - on
the "Have You Seen Me" mailers I get almost every day and wonder why
they're just not good enough for CNN to do a Breaking News story about.
