The longest work of his is called "At the Mountains of Madness", which is
currently under production as a feature film. Most of his stuff appeared in
Weird Tales and a few other pulp magazines from the 30's and on. He
published no novels, that I am aware of. He died pretty young, pretty much
convinced that he was not a success.

He is widely regarded as the father of modern horror fiction. At least I
have heard as much from the likes of Stephen King, and Dean Koontz.
Obviously this is a subjective issue.

He is also criticized for somewhat racist views expressed in alot of his
works.

Most of his works ooze with a dark opressive atmosphere that creates the
impression that we are pretty much specks of dust in the grand scheme of
things.

Hope this helps.
