Sometimes, when you browse through a site, the icon will show up, but
not always. If you bookmark the page, it will show up in the bookmarks
and usually in the address bar. It will persist for a while, and most
often load right away when you load the page.
And that's it.
With Mozilla, it usually shows up right away. The only exception is with
non-icons. Sometimes, they will display with weird distortions (i.e. the
Sacramento Bee's site) and come up with weird offsets.

When I did it, I found that I had to use an icon program to make the
graphic. Apparently its not exactly a regular gif so photoshop didnt do
it
for me. Also, in ie, often it wouldnt show up, so you grab the little e
in
your address bar and pull it half way out of the address bar and let it
go.
When it springs back, it will often come up with the favicon.

If you ever get this to work let me know. I've tried a couple of times
without luck.
