There are some of us who come to Cold Fusion outside of a regular job. In
my own case, I have begged my employers to use CF for a couple of years
without success. So all of my coding time has been on my own without
benefit of a more experienced person to bounce ideas off of.
Since there might be two Cold Fusion programmers in my entire state, this
situation is not likely to change for me unless I move. I'm not likely to
move unless I get a good enough job unless... It kind of goes in a circle.
You folks in an area with an established CF community are much luckier. A
new list specifically for critiques and newbie advice would be the next
best thing, and I vote for it wholeheartedly. CF-Talk is great, and many of
the older hands are very patient with newcomers, but that doesn't seem like
the focus of that list to me. I've noticed newbie questions getting lost in
the shuffle. I think most of us learn pretty quickly to avoid posing
questions that don't lend themselves to a quick, clear solution.
If we create a new list, perhaps we could also spend a little time
dissecting job descriptions and trying to interpret what they really mean.
Does this employer really want someone with 20 years worth of programming
experience in six languages for only $40,000? Or are they just fishing for
the best they can get? What's the least experience they'll really take?
Recent new hires could share their experience of actually getting their
job.
The CF community is absolutely the best I have ever been a part of. I think
a list geared narrowly to the needs of beginners is a great idea.
