Sounds more like a checkbox.... the on/off behaviour is standard html, not 
coldfusion specific. Using the cfform objects still generate standard html 
for elements with the addition of some javascript. This problem is easy to 
rectify, as a check box will only pass if it is checked... therefore.....

<cfparam name="checkboxname" default="false">

<cfif checkboxname eq "on">
  <cfset checkboxname = "true">
</cfif>

then run your query and you variables will match... I personally don't like 
using true/false... I convert the values to 0/1....
