This appears to be the case, ONLY as the result of not being able to define
the location of the UNIX socket at run-time.

But what about your setting, such as maps, logfile locations and ODBC
interfaces?  I'm fairly new to CF, but there appear to be plenty of things
which are set exclusively via CFIDE and cannot be overridden in an
Application.cfm.  Am I mistaken?  Can we set every variable via
Application.cfm?
