CFMX is dependant on glibc, libc, libstdc++, these requirements are all listed in the 
release notes.

CFMX requires a hostname, basically the connector is trying to connect to the JRun 
proxy, and the JRun proxy cannot loopback to the port and talk unless it has a valid 
hostname/IP entry.

I have installed RedHat with Custom installation and 
no packages selected.  If you can provide me with all
the packages that CF MX is dependant on, that would be
great. This might fix the problem.

There is no kernel-level port filtering/firewalling.

hostname - there is no DNS entry because the server is
not yet in the production environment.  However, I
will put the DNS entry in and see if that fixes the
problem.
