We are a small developer running a large content management system, and we
recently completed porting to Linux and MX. Though the transition from CF 5
on NT was not flawless, we have had great success with MX on Redhat/Apache
2.0.xx. Before porting, we were constantly fighting with IIS and NT to not
max out
our system RAM and crash the boxes. Now, though RAM usage stays high
(higher baseline RAM consumption was expected in moving to a Java
environment), the boxes don't have the consistent bad performance and
crashes we saw before.

The only Windows box we're running is our SQL Server (and that may be the
next victim of a better alternative). As for CF, we are completely Linux
from Development to Production, and we've even transitioned from Microsoft
VSS for Source Control to CVS (WinCVS client). Our Linux servers have
integrated with our Windows workstations easily.

During our transition, we actually initiated a support incident with MM.
Due to our diligence in testing and in following all recommended
installation procedures to the letter, we ended that incident with a
confirmed bug number, and no charge. From this personal experience,
Macromedia has handled support well. Our support tech was fairly
knowledgeable, but willing to admit when necessary that he'd have to get
some technical input and get back to us.

By no means do I consider myself a Linux Guru, but I have been involved in
our server setup and deployment. Now that we've completed the work and had
a while to observe CFMX on Redhat in a production environment, I am very
pleased with the stability and scalability of our systems.

Well, it's not that always that cut and dried. I run a production CF Linux
server, a development/testing CF Linux server and three development CF
Single-User Windows workstations. It's not always "one-or-tother" (as one
of my friends says).

I don't know anyone that is completely Linux from development up to
production. I have two clients that are exclusively Windows, however.

It certainly would be interesting to see if the Linux Server vs. Windows
server proportion is equal to the CF on Linux vs. CF on Windows proportion.
