We are about to take the leap and move over from CF5 to MX and are currently trying to
establish the
best hardware/software combination. We are looking to purchase Intel server building
blocks
(http://www.intel.com/go/serverbuilder) as these give us the flexibility to custom
build our own
machines. Our basic spec is the SR1300 server w/dual Xeon 2.4Ghz chips and 2Gb RAM.
Can anybody
answer any of the following?

1. Having read the ColdFusion MX system requirements, it lists the supported
processor for Linux as
'Intel Pentium Processor'. Is anybody running it on a Xeon-based setup? Is it likely
to have any
problems?

2. We wish to run Red Hat but are caught in a 'catch-22'. Intel only certify their
server blocks
with the latest release of Red Hat and therefore it is not officially tested with 7.2.
 CFMX is not
approved with Red Hat 8.0 although I have read the very helpful installation notes on
CFDEV so can
see that it is possible to get it to work.

- When will CFMX be approved to run on Red Hat 8.0?

- Are there any obvious limitations with Red Hat 7.2 which will mean that it isn't
compatible with
Xeon chips or 2Gb+ of RAM (eg. Win 9x gets upset when you increase the RAM over a
certain amount)?

3. Macromedia claim that Apache 2.x gives performance improvements over 1.3.x, yet I
read on this
list that many people are still using 1.3.x. Is there any disadvantage to going over
to 2.x that I
have missed?

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Matt.
