... so the problem is with CF's apparently still screwed up SMTP 
client.  See my previous recommendation.

no. I'm guessing "spool interval" is "deferred msg retry interval". totally 
unrelated to broken SMTP connections by CF.

Since you're handling linux, you can handle postfix as MTA, for which there 
is probably a postfix RPM or whatever they call them for your flavor of 
Linux, (rather than spend weeks puzzling through sendmail's crypic config 
and m4 macros).  postfix has one  config file of full-word style

I said that in 1997.  why do you think so many of the very first CF add-ons 
were replacement SMTP clients for CFMAIL?
