You are correct, you basically will pick a distro depending on what apps you
want to run. Go ahead and contact macromedia, even offer to pay for
support, but for free I will tell you what they will tell you. Redhat is
the only Linux distro supported. We've gone that route and they offer no
help unless you are using a supported OS.

Do ALL applications work with ALL distros?
A: of course not, but it's not difficult to choose a distro that works with
MOST of them :)

Not saying that any distro is better than another, but in the case where you
were to deploy something for production, you pick the distro that can be
supported the best. Obviously, you can experiment.

Doug,
Don't replace the distro just because one app doesn't work. With this
strategy, you might have to replace many distro's and apps. Ubuntu looks
like a good distro.
I would suggest the following:
(1) Contact the tech team at ubuntulinux and ask them for pointers, for free
by email. If they give you instructions and it doesn't work, ask them that
if you "PAY" for their help, how long would it take or how much would a flat
fee cost ? Then make up your mind whether you want to replace the distro or
continue with ubuntu.
