You are correct, you basically will pick a distro depending on what apps you want to run. Go ahead and contact macromedia, even offer to pay for support, but for free I will tell you what they will tell you. Redhat is the only Linux distro supported. We've gone that route and they offer no help unless you are using a supported OS.
Do ALL applications work with ALL distros? A: of course not, but it's not difficult to choose a distro that works with MOST of them :) Not saying that any distro is better than another, but in the case where you were to deploy something for production, you pick the distro that can be supported the best.
