No need for apologies:-) > I just responded to a mail message, about calendars, with "Reply All" without > being aware of the mail source and any potential feedback loops. Which is a perfectly rational thing to do, and it worked correctly as the gitHub / email bridge is supposed to. The problem is that the gitHub email bridge is not designed to be used with a mailing list... I imagine there must be some way to have the creation of new issues and PRs sent to the list, but not allow the “list user” to participate in discussions. BTW, as far as I remember, this is not so different than it was with TRAC — I remember getting “spammed” with emails about TRAC tickets as well. I think we just had a particularly active discussion on gitHub recently... -CHB > > Happy to sign up to Github if other mailing lists, and their occasional spam > pollution, switched off. > > Hopefully the outcome is a sleeker, more responsive system with less unwanted > legacy. > > Chris Little > > Chris Little BA, MSc, FRMetS, MBCS > Chair, OGC Meteorology & Oceanography Domain Working Group > Chair, OGC Temporal DWG > Member, OGC Architecture Board > > IT Fellow - Operational Infrastructures > Met Office FitzRoy Road Exeter Devon EX1 3PB United Kingdom > Tel: +44(0)1392 886278 Fax: +44(0)1392 885681 Mobile: +44(0)7753 880514 > E-mail: [email protected] http://www.metoffice.gov.uk > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Chris Barker - NOAA Federal > Sent: 07 November 2018 16:38 > To: Martin Juckes - UKRI STFC <[email protected]> > Cc: Erik Quaeghebeur <[email protected]>; Jim Biard > <[email protected]>; [email protected] > Subject: Re: Please stop sending Github messages to the ML > >> that would be because someone posted a message in github >> >> https://github.com/cf-convention/cf-conventions/issues/148#issuecomment-434723577 >> as cf-metadata-list > > Does anyone know how hat was even possible?? > > Don’t you have to post a comment as a gitHub ID? > > (By the way, I don’t think it was me) > > -CHB >
