* I suggest omitting the word "functional", which occurs twice. It's not obvious (to me) what it might mean exactly, and I think that really you're defining what it means by going on to describe the two groups concerned. The word "functional" therefore doesn't add any information but might puzzle the reader. * You mention `long_name` as an example but it's not one of the attributes "controlled" by this restriction. The reader might wonder about it. Perhaps it would be better not to mention `long_name` in this paragraph. We could add a final paragraph, after `formula_terms`, to say something like, "Other attributes not mentioned above, such as `long_name`, may have different values for the coordinate and boundary variable, if present on both."
