Hi @ zklaus - UCAR/NCAR uses [DataCite](https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://datacite.org/__;!!G2kpM7uM-TzIFchu!lAcCqy54Jr1SJwxYr7rY0hvt6q5aW19tbX-YAwjG5B6pSIykDKjyxPnTBRhaeWwRvyzfYl7qRwM$ ) for DOI minting service. (I think UC Library uses DataCite as well. @castelao - Do you know? And, actually, I believe Zenodo uses DataCite behind the scenes as well.)
There are pros and cons to each approach. DataCite is just a DOI minting service whereas Zenodo, as I understand it, is a repository/archive that creates DOIs for the items archived. Going with UCAR/NCAR or UC Library would allow us to control the landing page associated with the DOI URL (and require us to maintain it) whereas Zenodo DOIs dereference to a Zenodo landing page. Also, I’m not sure but my impression is that the DOI metadata supported by the Zenodo/GitHub integration may be a limited subset of the full DataCite metadata ([schema](https://urldefense.us/v3/__http://schema.datacite.org/meta/kernel-4.4/__;!!G2kpM7uM-TzIFchu!lAcCqy54Jr1SJwxYr7rY0hvt6q5aW19tbX-YAwjG5B6pSIykDKjyxPnTBRhaeWwRvyzfcaMMTHI$ )). On the other hand, Zenodo is very easy and the GitHub integration means permissions for Zenodo configuration are tied to permissions on the CF GitHub repos rather than UCAR/NCAR or UC Library access to DataCite. I had forgotten about it, but I agree with @zklaus that it would be good to figure out the CF license before or along with the CF DOI. As for how this choice should be made, I’m not really sure. But as a next step I will take this to the CF Governance Panel to gather some input. -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://github.com/cf-convention/cf-conventions/issues/127*issuecomment-1016974104__;Iw!!G2kpM7uM-TzIFchu!lAcCqy54Jr1SJwxYr7rY0hvt6q5aW19tbX-YAwjG5B6pSIykDKjyxPnTBRhaeWwRvyzf-ydG8E4$ You are receiving this because you commented.
