I can totally feel the pain on this post. I've been at the same job
for about four years now and could rant endlessly about the hourly
wage, my yearly comission that got cut into less than half - because
they didn't realize a web site would produce this many sales - and
lack of benefits. I received my yearly comission last week and after
spending several hours mad & upset I decided to beef up my skills over
the next 6 months - year and put forth extra effort toward my career
and education. Once I've accomplished that I will move on to something
new. I am the whole IT department for this company - code, design,
SEO, hardware, software, etc... and while I enjoy getting to do a
little of everything on a regular basis it has hendered me to being
master of anything.

My plans? Finish current side projects and start building a portfolio
of some sort to show off what I am capable of instead of counting on
my 'job', learn a new language or two and build a couple apps with
them, finish up some classes - find something rewarding at least part
of the time instead of just somewhere I have to show up on a regular
basis to get a paycheck.
