Subject: Re: Installing Cold Fusion
Hey Jacob,
Management insists it being on one computer, but it's
a dev comp. I just don't want to mess anything up. I
think I'm just going to run the installation and hopefully
you guys won't have to hear from me :)
Thanks everyone!!

Amy,
Sorry if some of the replies don't answer your question directly.
Yes you can put Cold Fusion, IIS, SQL Server, and Front Page extensions
(seems like I left something out?) on the same NT server. You might want to
be very careful about the order in which you install the software. My guess
is that SQL Server should be the first item installed even before you put on
IIS. I would double check with the Microsoft web site or SQL Server
instructions to be sure.
The more applications you put on that server the worse performance will be.
For a development box you will probably be ok as long as there are only a
few developers working on it. If a lot of people start hitting that server
you will have performance issues. You will also see performance issues when
doing large database intensive work such as adding large amounts of records
or even querying large amounts of records. The more processors, ram, etc.
the better off you will be.
As many have stated. Microsoft recommends putting SQL server on it's own
box. This is for a production environment. In a large scale production
environment you would want to make the SQL server box strictly a SQL box.
You wouldn't want it to be a domain controller, run IIS, host email, or run
any unnecessary services..
I do not specifically use SQL Server myself so I can't offer you any more
advice. I do know of the software you listed it will be the most "finicky"
and will need it's instructions followed as closely as possible.
