"Developing Web Applications with ColdFusion" : I found a lot of typos and
as newbie lost a lot of time to figure out why some templates where not
running: missing ' or ", etc..

Chapter One of "Developing Web Applications with ColdFusion" (one of the
books which comes with CF) should explain it in pretty simple terms. You
said you were plowing through "the handbook". Perhaps you don't have all
the books, there are actually several books which come with CF. If you
don't have all of them, you should be able to get the docs in PDF or HTML
format on Allaire's website somewhere, though you may have to hunt for them.
Good luck!
