As I said, I don't think these files should have any effect if you are working
locally.
I have three computers. I gave them each their own IP (in-accessible through the
internet):
10.10.10.1
10.10.10.2
10.10.10.3
hosts / lmhosts help one computer find the other on the network. If you do a
search on your hard drive for 'host' you'll probably bring up the
files. they may be named 'hosts.sam' or 'lmhosts.sam'. Instructions for use of the
files will be within the file. They allow me to type in
'jeffsnewcomputer' into my browser and it knows which IP to go to. I guess it's a
local DNS lookup.
