The server CD will not allow an upgrade from professional 2000, and a clean
install (windows style) will install server alongside professional, giving
you 2 choices during start up.

I have had problems ever since with both, in fact in the end only
professional would boot.....

If I had to choose again, I would back everything up to CD's format and
format the drive and install server onto a blank canvas.

See if you can utilize the migration tools from MS it may save you some time
and effort!

Really?

By clean install does that mean re-formmating my harddisk?

I've loaded on tons of programs so I really didnt want to go through it all
again but it looks like I might have to!
