Roger,

You want a new (virtual) web site, not a virtual directory. Sharing of the IP
address should be no problem so long as you specify the unique host name (host
header name) in the site configuration.

The previous post about DNS is correct - ciao.salut.com MUST resolve to the IP
address you're using in the web site configuration. If it does not, then no
matter what you do, nobody will be able to get to the new web site.

For what it's worth... You can create a new web site rooted in a branch
(subdirectory) of an existing one, but you may find out that it's somewhat
problematic. For instance, with the following directory structure for
salut.com:

D:\web\salut.com
D:\web\salut.com\ciao
D:\web\salut.com\images

If your www.salut.com web site has its home (root) directory at
D:\web\salut.com, when you serve content from http:\\www.salut.com\ciao, the
pages there will be able to reference content in D:\web\salut.com\ciao\images,
using <img src="../images/someimage.jpg"> or <img src="/images/someimage.jpg">.

When you serve the same content from that directory using ciao.salut.com, you
won't be able to reference images in the same manner, since the site is rooted
at D:\web\salut\ciao, IIS won't permit you reference content from "outside" of
that directory structure. One way to get around this would be to use
references to the other site's content using <img
src="http://www.salut.com/images/someimage.jpg";> on any pages in the ciao
directory.

Jim
