No, one of the apps we run you create 'Albums' which hang of the site as
Virtual Dirs which point back to the base code, so you have something like

www.foo.com     src path = c:\inetpub\root
www.foo.com/bar         src path = c:\inetpub\root

And these are created programatically...

For apache, the only way I know of doing this is by adding <directory> tags
into the httpd.conf file and then restarting apache?

Is it possible to do this with apache without the restart?

Having to configure your web server ! The pain :-) !

This tatkes no time at all compared to IIS, and you can always run httpd -t 
and httpd -S to check the config first.

Good practice - I did my desktop last night, seems OK if a long install.
