Hello All!
I am looking for ideas and direction for automatically updating a database
on a remote web server from another Internet-connected server/application.
All of the CF sites I have developed so far have been pretty straight
forward from a database creation perspective. Data is entered into the web
server database through a CF form on the same server. However, we are seeing
more need to display information on the Web that has been created somewhere
else.
For example, ABC Corp. has an custom application on their internal system
that is used by their employees to enter customer information. They would
like to make this information available to their customers via the Web. For
cost and administration reasons they want to use an external shared server
to run the Web application. On their internal system they can put the
information in just about any format (native format is DB4) and are
flexible. We can use Access or MSQL on the shared NT web server. Response
time is an issue but the volume of accesses will be low.
My question is: What options (benefits/drawbacks) are there for
automatically uploading the information from the internal server to the
external Web server database through the Internet? In your opinion, what is
the best way?
Thanks,
Scott Forler
