I don't think anyone on this list is indifferent to the plight of a missing child. I'm a new parent and trust me, I have a new-found sensitivity to anything remotely related to harm to children.
However, I think the real question is where do we draw the line? Is it okay to post a fund-raising request for breast cancer? Surely everyone is against breast cancer. What about a walk-a-thon for muscular dystrophy? Or how about circulating a petition against the Israeli occupation of Palestine, or the targeting of innocent civilians by Palestinian suicide bombers? This list has a tremendous signal-to-noise ratio and I'd hate to see it diluted with well-meaning but off-topic posts. Just my $.02.
