Y'all are showing the typical ESRI and ESRI User "there can be only one..." stance. HOWEVER,
> "no idea what you mean but AutoCAD's not GIS." Note that I didn't mention AutoCAD, as it is not GIS, I mentioned AutoDesk's MAPGUIDE product. For many years it actually bundled CF with it. That's how I got started with CF. > "CAD aint no GIS! In a word - topology" In 2 words AutoDesk MAP! Again, I didn't mention Cad. As for topologies, AutoDesk's MAP product works quite well and is very much a GIS based product. > "and I realize that I am not missing out one bit by doing what I am doing" As with any need you have, you should weigh the options and then pick the one that best meets your needs. If you just want a pretty map with some dots on it, that's one thing but if you want to be able to dynamically read a DB and color code objects (parcels, road conditions, building types for instance) based on fields in a db, vector based maps are the way to go. Vector data also helps with "best route calculations" etc. True vector based maps (not jpg images of lines) also helps the speed. If you want to be able to have mouse over "fly-outs" (based on info in a DB) with out having to pick an "info" button, MapGuide is the way to go. Again, it depends on your needs. As for the downloads, MapGuide has an ActiveX, Plug-in and Java based viewer. The first 2 are one time downloads (or cd installs), the last one does not require a client install but does take a bit longer to load. As others have mentioned, this thread has now headed way off the CF topic, but I had to respond because it irritates me when people erroneously blast something they know little to nothing about.
