You right-click on the folder itself (on the filesystem), go to the Security
tab, and set the appropriate permissions to the files. Then, you go to the
Sharing tab, click on the Permissions button, and set analogous permissions
there. It might seem kind of silly to set permissions in both places, but
there are good reasons why you have to.

By default, though, if you just created a user account within the Users
group, or have an existing user account, the default permissions are
probably lax enough to let you read and write to the share from a remote
machine. Since you're doing all this in a VPC session, you might as well
just use the Administrator account for your remote access.
