Well, I don't know that what's used in the courses is as bad as all that.
It's primarily used to differentiate between complex data types - no
prefixes are used to differentiate strings from numbers, for example.
Personally, I find it to be pretty harmless within the context of most CF
code, since it's rare that you'd want to change a query to an array, for
example.
