Many of them probably need to have the MS app "regclean.exe" run to cleanup the registry problems that are interfering with the orderly shutdown, etc. It should be run periodically on most any windows box.
On the other hand, whay are you still using CF 5.0? you haven't migrated all of them to CFMX Enterpeise yet?
