I am ready to place an order for the new server and need to decide between Win2K and Win2k3.
Apparently there is now a "Web" edition of 2k3 for half a grand less than full Win2k3, but it specifically states that the web edition cannot be used to deploy SQL Server. This is not a problem at the moment, but I do not want to limit my options when it comes time to move up to SQL Server. It is not clear WHAT prevents the utilization of SQL Server. Would it prevent me from using MySQL, for example? The MS site seems intentionally vague when describing what makes it worth $500 less. Does anyone have any experience to share regarding the installation of RedSky on 2K3 full/web edition? Finally, I am currently running 4.5. How big of a hassle is the upgrade from 4.5 to RedSky? Do I want to avoid the upgrade and just install clean on the new server? My argument is that I need to determine if I spend the money on the upgrade at the same time I buy the server, which might prove painful. If the upgrade from 4.5 to RedSky is problematic, though, I might be able to justify all of the expense at the same time.
