Try cfChat - http://www.cfchat.net - I've been using it for years and haven't had any problems with it. I was in a similar situation - already have user accounts in a dB, need a place for them to chat without entering new information. In addition i wanted a non-Java cross-platform chatroom. This one gives you all of that. Plus the developer, Ivan Latunov, is a nice guy and writes great code.
You can download the demo and try it out.
