Why? It seems like most of the editors already support a very common set of features. Most users are not going to be impressed that a Java editor functions the same way on all platforms. I'm sure a Mac user would prefer the editor to function like a native application/widget. I know part of the reason I dislike Macromedia applications is that they do not feel or function like Windows applications. Because, instead of writing a relatively simple interface for each different platform, you'd have to write, test, debug, etc. all the functionality yourself. Unless I'm completely off base, I think it would take much more time to write a feature rich, cross platform HTML editor. I'd much rather just leverage the work done by other individuals.
