We still use search97. It is a legacy system that predates my employment here. And its working fine.

Not yet. We are a little late adopting new stuff. But we are looking to switch. Our collections are getting slower. I think it is due to switching over to Window 2000 Servers (right after the switch, the verity searches became much longer. like 25 seconds minimum where we were getting 2-5 seconds before) And I think the .ini file is getting a bit large.

> - What document types do you index?

htm, pdf, cfm

> - How many documents do you index?

max 20,000 in a collection
most are about 8000 documents or so.
We do have some clms that add together 15 collections (all years for a publication)
We have a total of about 560,000 documents.
We rebuild the collection during every document change or addition. Which happens in batches, every couple of hours. (Our system doesn't know how to update or append. So its a good thing the indexer (walker.exe) is so fast)

> - How many collections do you have?

One collection per year per publication per document type.
Types are broken down by who created and published the documents (Us, courts, lawyers, government agencies.)
213 collections total. More coming for 2004.

I worked on some WAIS implementations in the mid-90s. I'm glad I don't have to do any of that anymore!

Some of the things below may actually exist. But I am not aware of them. So if the exist, it might be a communication thing. Or I might be an idiot. Your choice. =)

We add new zones and fields as new fields are needed. One a month, or so, on average. We then rebuild all the collections from scratch. Which takes a day or more.

I'd like a CF tag that inserts a new field or zone.
I'd like a CF tag that returns a query with all my extra fields and zones populated.
I'd like the CF built collections to have all the features as I have in the .ini, styles, zone files.
(I'd like the CF tags for Verity to know if I've spent the extra money on a Full Verity license. And give me the extra features if so..)

Some brainstorming, Not well thought out!

I'd like cfm files to replace the hts files, straight up.

I'd like pages and pages of examples. And some more documentation. And a list of restricted words. And some more documentation. And some examples.

What I'd love to see is a control panel, like a WindowsExplorer paned window, that lets me walk through my collections. Like what I have with Music Match (where the mp3 ID3 tags are listed)

I'd like a really good wizard in the control panel that builds my collections for me. Let me select directories, filetypes, dates, and refresh options (rebuild the collection once per day at 12:32 am), extra fields to add, and have it go to town.

give me a CF tag that returns a list of all my collections, with the collection parameters in there.

give me a CF tag that returns simple info on the collection (last updated, number of files)

give me some log options for the indexer access (who, when, what, how long, queries that took longer than 8 seconds...)

I'd love it if verity could return property details about images. Things like size, width and height, type, color depth, keywords, copyright, etc.

I'd love it if verity could return property details about mp3 files. Things like length, album, band, title, etc. All the ID3 tags.

Let me access the collections using SQL commands, as if it were a large db or cursor or something. And let me do subqueries.

Just some rambling thoughts.
