search technology. I am interested in hearing what people have to say about
Verity in ColdFusion.
its soggy & hard to light ;-)
> - Do you use our Search? Another technology? Why? Why not?
nope. no thai or unicode support. performance is poor compared to sql server
full-text indexing for db stuff & it integrates sloppily w/db. no real
caching, production performance is flat & stays flat. incremental updates
(your run-of-the-mill db usage) to collections croaks performance so you're
infinitely optimizing your collections.
> - What document types do you index?
mainly db stuff.
> - How many documents do you index?
millions of rows.
> - What features do you like?
that it intergrates easily cf.
> - What features are we missing?
see above, mainly unicode support.
> By the way, we just had a meeting with Verity last week. Their new 5.x
(we currently ship version 2.6.1) stuff looks very nice. When I asked them
about their indexing speed, they said something along the lines of "We are
not the fastest indexing, but we are the fastest search technology hands
down." We hope to enhance Blackstone in such a way that indexing speed will
be improved, both with changes in our code and by updating the underlying
search technology. So while "make it go faster" is a reasonable thing to
ask, assume we will attempt to do this.
i would think ms would beg to differ, its indexing technology wins awards
pretty consistently in academic run-offs.
