Try something like this:

<CFTRY>
<CFIF SearchCriteria IS Invalid>
        <CFTHROW TYPE=3D"MyCustomError" MESSAGE=3D"Your Search Criteria =
are Invalid">
</CFIF>
<CFCATCH TYPE=3D"MyCustomError">
        #CFCATCH.Message#
</CFCATCH>
</CFTRY>

Basically the idea is to wrap the CFTHROW in conditional code so that it =
creates an error=20
when certain conditions are met. You then "catch" the error by referring =
to it with the=20
TYPE parameter using CFCATCH, and display the defined error message using =
CFCATCH.Message=20
(and CFCATCH.Detail, if you define that as well).

A product I use for full-text indexing and searching is called textdb
(www.webest.dk)

It's a small and cheap product. It's not as straight-forward to use as
mssql fulltext, but it's furociously quicker than mssql or oracle (and
presumably verity with comparisons of it being slower than sql7).

I have a db with 500,000 records containing descriptions ranging from 5k =
to
1 meg of data, and ANY search I do is finished within half a second. I can
do a wildcard "a" search, or a very complex conditional query using =
"sounds
like" operators, and still get my results back in that amount of time. =
Not
sure if version 4 is out yet, but version 3.whatever didn't support =
phrases,
the new version does (and is just as quick as before).

Building the full text index also blows away the competition. It's not as
rich in features as teh others, and has a couple other limitations - but =
raw
speed (both building, updating, and retrieving) blows ms sql and oracle
(context stuff and intermedia) out of the water. I can build an index in
about 20 minutes on multiple fields against the 500k record database - =
this
is from scratch.

It works as a com object, so you need to use cfobject (which I have sample
code for it) - but this still works very quickly.

Not sure about how it works with thai, but it's very impressive nonetheless=
.

well, that's my 2 cents.

Tom

Just a thought, make sure that cffile is enabled on the CF Administrator.
If it isn't you won't be able to write to any directory.

If you have error logs they might give you some idea. For instance, if
there is some other username being used for some reason (not that I know
what reason that would be) you may be able to trace down the username in
the error log. I'm not sure what kinds of logging are available but I know
that you can track that in Solaris. You should be able to track it in =
Linux
also.

Can I just say it's got NOTHING to do with your JavaScript - that "=" should
not be in the CFIF, it should be "is"

<cfif url.sort is "thumbnail">

In addition to Kevin's comments, some flavors of SQL (especially SQL Server)
treat NULL differently - so "NOT omit='Yes'" will ignore NULL values as it's
only looking for string values, it might be worth using;
AND (NOT omit='yes' OR omit IS NULL)

Try both and see what happens...

IE has a very odd usage on CSS, some of it works properly, others don't work
at all...

Maybe you could use a <br style="page-break-after: alwasy"> before the <h1>

Since we are having the meeting in the evening this time, make sure you
RSVP by TUESDAY ( http://www.nccfug.com) if you plan to attend. The

RSVP (again by Tuesday, 8/15/00) instead, your name will be on the
"NCCFUG Meeting" list and you can ride the elevator in comfort. Wouldn't
that be nice?

Hello again. I am trying to write a web based email client, and I have a

for the existence of attachments. This does not ,however, seem to work
Here's what I get:

when using oracle and cfinsert or cfupdate, you have to capitalize the
Tablenames, otherwise it won't work---
i it's not recommendable to use cfinsert or cfupdate when the db is oracle,
because they are about ten times slower then an cfquery tag with update and
insert instructions (al least on CFAS 4.0)

Hello,
Having trouble with <CFUPDATE>. The table being updated is not found in the
datasource even though the data to be updated has just been extracted from
that table. Database is Oracle 8
Tag is <cfupdate datasource="billygoat" tablename="main_table">.
Any help?

is planning on driving up that way and would be interested in car pooling up
that way. I live in Chattanooga and am planning on driving up Friday

planning on going and are interested, please feel free to call me. Thanks.

That is correct, except no spaces after the commas. You also have
quotedValueList() which will give you the same list but with single quotes
around it.

Ron,

Use the URLEncodedFormat("string goes here") function. It'll transform all
special characters into a format that works for the URL. For instance, it'll
change the "&" to "%26".

Yes and (very slightly) no

A ValueList does make a comma separates list, and in CFMail it will appear
as the list of emails, but without the space after the commas

Also, some SMTP servers don't like commas between emails, so you should put
semi-colons instead

Now, under CF4 (not sure about CF4.5) you could only send a CFMail to 40
recipients, also, you usually don't want everybody knowing who else got the
email, so I would say to loop through the query and send an individual email
to each person singly - more stress for the email server, but you're
guaranteed that it'll hit everyone and without them knowing the rest of the
list

Hope this answers

In the CFCache tag you can specify "cache directory", ie. c:\my
docs\cftemp\.

I'm on the road and don't a have a shared or networked hard drive near me.
That in conjunction with a nightmare I had last night is making me nervous.
I dreamt I couldn't use a file server to serve up cached cfm files!

In addition, in a load balanced in environment, I want to make sure all the
servers share the same cfcache mapping file.

Would someone in the list confirm for me that the cfcache tag will access a
shared/networked drive?

Your insights are greatly appreciated. TIA

You can change the delimiters to whatever you want to, but yeah it defaults
to comma's

#valuelist(queryname.columnName,"||")#
would give you:"[EMAIL PROTECTED]||[EMAIL PROTECTED]||[EMAIL PROTECTED]||etc.

#valuelist(queryname.columnName,",")#  or #valuelist(queryname.columnName)#
would give you:"[EMAIL PROTECTED],[EMAIL PROTECTED],[EMAIL PROTECTED],etc.

#valuelist(queryname.columnName,"/")#
would give you:"[EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED][EMAIL PROTECTED]/etc.

I would argue about a few of your suggestions,

First don't use compare() instead of <cfif foo IS 'bar'> since compare is
case sensitive

You can not do <cftag name="foo"> value=#var#> on any type of strings

Always avoid IIF() because it is up to 4x slower then <cfif> even if it is
nested

Don't lock the request scope, because it is thread safe by design!

Lock application, session, & server scopes

Take Care,

Jordan Clark

 <select name=3D"Cuisine">
 <cfoutput query=3D"guide">
 <option value=3D"#CuisineID#">#Cuisine#
 </cfoutput>  =20
 </select>

Now correct me if I am wrong but is that context look correct?

The way this will get displayed is like this:

(the pull down menu will look like this)

Idaho Falls
Idaho Falls
Boise
Boise
Twin Falls
Twin Falls

They repeat and I don't understand why is does that? I only have three =
towns in the database (Idaho Falls, Boise, and Twin Falls)

Yes, I do have the query at the top of the page correct also. =20

Any thoughts from the Cold Fusion Guru's of the group?

Thanks,

Darren

Great! Thanks Jason. One more question:

If I have a target specified in that URL, where does it go; After the
template called and before the '?', or at the very end??

Thanks again.

The problem is in your query Darren,
You need to

SELECT DISTINCT CuisineID, Cuisine

Hi there,

Frank, thanks for the response. I put in SELECT DISTINCT in my query but I
still get repeating records when I populate the drop down menu.

I just can't determine what is going on here.

Thanks,

Darren

Do you have "Idaho Falls" in there with two id's?

Try

<cfoutput query="guide" group="Cuisine">

or let's see your query

Am new CF to but I would try to switch that CFOUTPUT to a CFLOOP. Maybe the
output is doing it twice since the variable it in the cfoutput twice. Here
is copy of some code I did.

Good Luck

  <cfselect name="LNI_STO" size="6" multiple>

      <option value="'Unassigned'">Unassigned</options>

Are you running a relational query? That is are you grabbing data from two
tables?

If so you need to do something like this to remove dupliucates:

SELECT  CuisineTable.CuisineID, CuisineTable.Cuisine
FROM            CuisineTable, Restaurants
WHERE           CuisineTable.CuisineID = Restaurants.CuisineID

Try sending your query to the list.

Are you using Access97?

If so, it implements a non-standard "Distinct"
It finds a distinct ROW when you specify more
than one column.

So to get distinct CITIES you need to filter your query,
or select City ONLY to populate your drop-down a la:

SELECT Distinct City

best,  paul

(If I remember a right from when I went 'round & 'round
with Access a while ago)

Hey Paul,

Actually I am using Access 2000. Is there anything that you know I should
be aware of using this database?

Thanks,

Darren

I tried to change the query around to this:

SELECT      CityData.CityID, CityData.City, CuisineData.CuisineID,
CuisineData.Cuisine
FROM        CityData, CuisineData

and I received two of each city again in my drop down menu.

Like I said am new to this but doesn't there need to be a where or Join on
the two databases. I am guessing with this your getting records from both
databases not a single record of the two databases. If there is a key
between the two data bases I think you need a where statement if you don't
have keys between the two data bases maybe you need a subquery then in the
where statement link by city names. Just guessing

Good Luck
David

SELECT      CityData.CityID, CityData.City, CuisineData.CuisineID,
CuisineData.Cuisine
FROM        CityData, CuisineData

Since the two tables don't seem to be related you should probably run two
separate queries

<cfquery name="query1" datasource="#dsn#">

   CuisineData.CuisineID,
   CuisineData.Cuisine

<cfquery name="query2" datasource="#dsn#">

Subject: Updating a remote db from local csv file
Message-ID: <007801c004b1$fd2162c0$6da72dcb@geoff>

Hi everybody I am new to this list and looking forward to learning from your
posts.

I am new to ColdFusion so need lots of help. I would like to be able to
update/overwrite a table in a remote Access data base from a local csv or
excel file. It has been suggested that I use WDDX, does anyone have any
idea how this works.

I also have these two scripts which use an array but I have been unable to
make them work. Can anyone help?

Sebastian,

]I have stored a query result into an application
]variable. I then want to be able to filter just
]one record from it. The only way I have been
]able to do this is by using a query loop and
]then passing it the CurrentRow variable from
]the query record set and using it for both the
]"startrow" and the "endrow" in the query loop.
]Are there other ways to do it?

You can also pull specific rows from a query using array notation. By
referencing the row number you would like to display after the query name
(ex. '#Application.Books[url.currentrow]#') the same way you would reference
an array element you can accomplish the same results.

]<cfloop query="Application.Books" startrow="#URL.CurrentRow#"
]endrow="#URL.CurrentRow#">
]
]    <cfoutput>
]    Title: #Title#<br>
]    Author: #AuthorLastName#
]
]    </cfoutput>
]
]</cfloop>

Instead of the loop, try this:

<cfoutput>Title: #Application.Books[URL.CurrentRow].title#</cfoutput>
<cfoutput>Author: #Application.Books[URL.CurrentRow].author#</cfoutput>

I hope this helps. Good luck!
