But, as you can tell, I'm a real newbie at digging into the Unix and Apache stuff, and definitely a newbie at setting up and configuring JRun...but I'm up to the task. So what I'm wondering is, where would one go to get information specific to learning about setting up and running that stuff under OS X? More specific, the whole "Apache with JRun and CF" solution running on OS X...are there any good websites dealing with just this kind of thing?
And before I begin, I kinda have one question that'll really determine the whole way I go about learning and setting this stuff up, and that's this:
Under Mac OS X, it's a user based OS. Unix and all...so what I was thinking was, I don't want to ALWAYS run all the gaga associated with doing this *all* the time, but when I want to dig in and try coding and configuring and all, I don't want to go thru the pain of making sure I remember to get everything fired up before I begin, so I was thinking...Can you create another "user" (say "Jeff Developing") and log out, then log in as that user? And when you log in, it'll keep all your server and startup settings and automatically sort of "switch over" into a whole "coding" setup? I was thinking, that way I could have my default login all setup without running all that software and hogging up all that RAM when I don't even *need* them running, then have another login that would keep all that stuff running for as long as I needed to login, do some work, and test and debug...
Does that make sense? And can I do it? And is it sort the "best" way to go about setting up an "environment" to develop on, using OS X?
I know, I know, lots of questions, but I'm slowly wading in, and would love to be able to do development work on my Mac, but am a bit overwhelmed right now with the whole "command line Unix" thing...
