You should be able to do this -- I'm all Mac so I never have done it
myself.  But, if you can access it via TCP/IP you can get at it from a
Mac/Unix/Linux/whatever...

Also, You should be able to run SQL-Server (free developer version)
under win under VirtualPC on your Laptop and access databases from CFMX
on OS X -- performance should be adequate for development
