Michael,

One thing I try to do in applications is store the dateFormat mask in
a variable, so that I can change it to whatever the client needs
quickly, sitewide.  You could also let individual users then change
how they'd like dates to display based on a session variable as well.

My clients are my co-workers since I work on all internal applications
at the moment. That being said I think it is in the best interest of
everyone here for me to push for a neutral standard. I can see how that
is tough for real clients however. Oh well....
