Not sure about a specific product (we use Windows 2003 Server), but you don't need much horsepower at all. You won't need much bandwidth either, since you aren't sending gobs of data, but you will be receiving and sending lots of small requests if you have a busy domain.
I would suggest a couple of low- mid-range desktop computers (possibly ones you may have sitting on a shelf), load up the memory and make sure they have good network connections. You might even need dual NICs. Didn't I read something about Ben Forta running a bunch of stuff like this on a Pentium 90 in his basement? ;-) -----Original Message----- From: Katz, Dov B (IT) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2005 3:32 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Custom DNS Server? Has anyone run their own DNS server? I want to experiment having 3rd level domains creatable and served from a cf box. Which DNS Server should I use? Does anyone know the additional load incurred by running your own DNS? ( how much bandwidth and how much processor power ) is used by this?
