I've used all of the "big name" tools, including Oracle Designer, Erwin and ER/Studio. Of the big names, my favorite is ER/Studio, but like the rest, it's pricey.
Last year I embarked on a journey to find the best low-cost database design tool, and after about six trial versions, I was down to DDS and CharonWare's CaseStudio. Eventually I chose CaseStudio, mainly because of the quality of the product and features. There was a couple things I liked about DDS better, but overall CaseStudio won out. I rolled this out to my entire team (six developers) and everyone loves it. www.casestudio.com Two related notes: Oracle JDeveloper is a free download, and contains a very nice UML-notation data modeling tool. Similarly, the best low-cost UML design tool I've found is EnterpriseArchitect. www.sparxsystems.com Good luck, bruce > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Logware (www.logware.us): a new and convenient web-based time tracking application.
