I don't know the details, as I'm new to MySQL, but when I set up my hosting account with HostMySite, I specifically asked about their plans for MySQL 5 support. They noted that they have been having some significant stability problems in their internal testing and, as such, are holding off for a more stable build. I know that's more anecdotal than substance, but I doubt it's just password issues.
