I don't know the details, as I'm new to MySQL, but when I set up my
hosting account with HostMySite, I specifically asked about their
plans for MySQL 5 support. They noted that they have been having some
significant stability problems in their internal testing and, as such,
are holding off for a more stable build.

I know that's more anecdotal than substance, but I doubt it's just
password issues.
