Dave, MySpace is not yet running entirely on BD, so the problems you're seeing may just as well be code running on CF5, but failing simply because the volume of traffic is absolutely staggering.
MySpace is either the 3rd or 4th highest trafficed web site of all, above google, (in terms of page views), depending on who you talk to (see http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/nov2005/tc20051115_908925.htm or http://news.designtechnica.com/article8875.html for samples). That it's working at all with such volumes on CF5 is impressive to many (and I don't mean that as a slap, but we all know CFMX was designed to address perceived scalability issues with CF5.) But MySpace knew that the time would come when CF5 would no longer cut it, and while they tried CFMX and passed on that, they were considering a move to .NET (and pure ASP.NET), when they learned of us. After testing last year showed that their code would not only work but work better on BD.NET, they bought and started making the move. The site is moving to BD by subsites (and across hundreds of servers each time). It's a huge site, and they have lots of ongoing responsibilities (always updating the site to appeal to their youthful audience) that understandably can get in the way of that effort. As for the people, I frankly would never get into a discussion of whether I thought one company's developers were "decent" or not. "Walk a mile in a man's shoes first" seems apt. Most of us know that many factors can influence the quality of code we have to support. /charlie > sorry charlie but not trying to be an ass but.. > > " We have plenty of shops who find the move to BlueDragon to be quite > painless " > like myspace...... > Thats the one I measure BD by and to tell you the truth it seems worse > now then when it was on cf5 the error messages are a bit different > they are becoming "cultish" kinda like ms's most famous BSOD. > > Is it BD or do they not have enough money yet to pay for decent > coders? > > ~Dave the disruptor~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:4:226971 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:4 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
